各位尊敬的来宾、女士们、先生们：

下午好！

我和在座的各位一样，是以非常高兴的心情出席今天的烧伤皮肤再生创新成就发布会，祝贺徐荣祥教授在烧伤皮肤干细胞再生研究中获得重要突破！我还要借此机会代表徐荣祥教授向出席今天发布会的所有朋友表示感谢！

徐荣祥教授1990年与他的研究所一起来到国家外国专家局，不久我也奉命到局主持工作。关于徐荣祥创建湿性烧伤治疗技术和发明美宝烧伤膏的动人传奇故事和一些议论不绝于耳。我聆听了徐教授的详细汇报和新的研究计划，对他肃然起敬，深感要研究的创新命题意义重大。他告诉我说：“美国巴巴拉教授电话告知，1989年他访华回去后，在美国国家健康研究院(NIH)重复了我提出的皮肤再生实验，获得满意的结果”。徐教授向我坚定地表示，破 解皮肤复制机理将是当代科学前沿的贡献，有信心以中国人的智慧完成这项创新研究。今天，徐教授以出色的学术成就和成功的医疗实践，向祖国和人民，向关爱他的人们交了一份满意的答卷！

女士们、先生们，在攀登科学高峰的征程中，一些思维新颖、独树一帜、命题重大的创新研究都很少是一帆风顺。徐教授也曾碰到种种不顺心事，难能可贵的是，他能在百般烦恼中静下心来，带领他的研究队伍加倍努力开展研究。1996年到1998年4月，在湖北襄樊烧伤 中心、河南南阳烧伤中心设立了临床研究基地，全面系统地完成了这项研究。经过一年多的 分析和整理，今天在这里发布这一重大研究成果。

出于对徐教授的支持、崇敬和种种考虑，我的责任感驱使我曾多次到医院观察和追踪医疗实践情况，事实胜于雄辩，我信服了。我作为中国科技工作者中的一员，为徐荣祥教授和他的研究组获得的杰出成就感到无比激动和自豪，对他在研究中的无私奉献科学的精神表示钦佩，也相信他在今后研究中取得更大的成绩。

最后祝愿这一前沿科学重大成果发布会圆满成功！

Ladies and Gentlemen:

Good afternoon！

I am as pleased as every one here to be present in the press release on Achievem ents on Burn Treatment by Skin Regeneration in China and to congratulate Profess or Xu Rongxiang on his gaining breakthroughs on burn skin regeneration by stem c ell. Also I would like to take this opportunity, on behalf of Professor Xu Rongx iang, to express gratitude for all friends present in this event!

In 1990, Professor Xu Rongxiang and his Institute became affiliated to State Bur eau of Foreign Experts. Soon I was assigned to preside over the Bureau. At that time there were many legends about Xu Rongxiang and his inventions of Moist Expo sed Burn Therapy and Moist Exposed Burn Ointment along with a variety of comment s and disputations about them. However, after listened to Professor Xu's detaile d reports and new research plans, I became respectable to him and convinced of t he great significance of the research to be conducted. He told me “Professor Ba r bara from USA phoned me and informed that following his visit to China in 1989, he repeated the experiment of skin regeneration proposed by me in National Insti tute of Health and obtained satisfactory results." Professor Xu convinced me tha t encoding the mechanism of skin duplication will be of significantly contributi ve to the frontier of contemporary science and he is fully self-confident as Chi nese of being able to accomplish this innovative research. Today, Professor Xu p resent his motherland and people with his excellent academic achievements and su ccessful medical practice.

Ladies and Gentlemen, as we know, the journey of scientific researches rarely ru ns smooth, especially for those with novelty thought, unusual and significant pr oposition. Though having encountered many difficulties, Professor Xu is always a bsorbed himself into the researches with his team. From 1996 to April of 1998, h e has set up clinical research bases in Xiangfan Burn Unit of Hubei Province and Nanyang Burn Unit of Henan and systematically accomplished the study. With more than one year's data analysis and collection, he is finally about to make his s ignificant achievements public today.

Out of support and esteem for him as well as other considerations, I have been t o hospitals for clinical observation and pursuing medical practice. As actions s peak louder than words, I am fully convinced. As one of China technology workers , I am excited at and proud of the significant achievements made by Professor Xu Rongxiang and his team. I admire his selfless scientific contributions and beli eve he will make much more progresses on the research in the future.
