    (Abstract)

    Gao Mingren

    (Binzhou Medical College, Shandong Province)

In this paper , the author , at first , made an explanation of the supreme principle of MEBT, i. e. compliance with the nature. This is also the supreme principle of Chinese philosophy and traditional Chinese medicine . Secondly, the author explained that the guiding ideology of MEBT in resolving contradictions is also based on the principle of compliance with the nature . Thirdly, the author emphasized that the auccess of MEBT is based on the integration of Chinese and western medicine.

The author's opinion, though concise, hit the nail on the head. It would help people to have a better understanding of the theoretical basis of MEBT and conventional dry burn therapy and the integration of Chinese and western medicine.

Kang Guoying Chen Jinrong Liu Xiqing

    Liu Tongshen Fu Zhiqiong

(Dept of Microbiology , Binzhou Mecical College)

This research studied the effect of MEBO on the production of interleukin-1(IL-1) by skin cell of mice , using MTT thymocyte proliferation method . The results indicated MEBO obviously enhanced production of IL-1 by skin cell of mice . Another experiment , using behavior method proved that MEBO increased pain threshold of MEBO treated rabbits and those treated with Vaseline was of significance (P<0.01), especially at 9 minutes after application of MEBO (p<0.01). We found that bacteria in the medium containing MEBO can have morphological variation and the variation characterstic and variation time were distinct with different bacteria. The results suggested that MEBO's effect that promoted wound healing and reduced scar formation was much related to its effect of increasing the production of IL-1 by skin cell. MEBO could also prevent infection and stop pain.

Some Problems Concerning the Application of MEBT in

    Treating Chemical Burns

    (Abstract)

    Yu Xien

(Hospital of the Nanjing Chemical Industrial (Group) Company)

The author made a survey of the literature and gave a retrospective view of the clinical experience in the treatment of chemical burns , including the application of water therapy, use of neutralizing agents, application of MEBT and the incidence of intoxication by absorption , etc.

The author concluded that MEBT/MEBO had characteristic effect in treating chemical burns . The curative rate was 99.93%(1558/1559). The incidence of intoxication by absorption of chemicals was only 0.32% (15/1559). MEBT/MEBO alleviated pain in the wound , prevented local and systemic infections. The problems of progressive necrosis of stasis tissue and scar formation after healing of deep second degree wounds are solved. MEBT/MEBO has very good effect on the neutralization dilution and excretion of poisonous chemicals . MEBT/MEBO is worthy to be popularized for the treatment of chemical burns.

Clinical Effect of Burn Skin Lipid Protein Complex

    (Abstract)

    Hong Sitong

(Burn Dept. General Hospital of Bebxi Iron & Stell (Group) Company)

Burn skin lipid protein complex (LPC) is made up of heat shock proteins and skin immune cell proteins. Over the past 30 years , researchers demonstrated that LPC effects on normal lymphocyte function . Low serum LPC level activated polymorphonuclear leucocyte to produce IL-1, IL-2 and lgG, while high serum LPC level inhibited their production . The LPC was up to many thousand fold more immunosuppressive than endotoxin. This toxic complex has been found, upon entering blood circulation , to cause severe syndromes i. e. MOF and SIR, implicating in the induction of late death. Experts recommended the application of cerium nitrate on eschar to kill PLC, because cerium nitrate has a high specific to LPC and makes it denatured in the eschar.

    (Abstract)

    Li Yuzhen Wang Hongsheng

(Kongfen Factory Hospital fro Staff and Workers, Kaifeng City)

A patient with exceptionally large area burn , treated previously with dry therapy for 12 days , was received by our centre on August 28, 1996. The total burn area was 98% BSA and third degree burns 98% BSA. Upon hospitalization , the patient was treated with MEBT/MEBO in combination with antiinfection, nutrition supporting and viscera function protection treatment . After 230 days, 88% of the third degree burns healed spontandeously without skin grafting and 10% BSA of deep third degree burn was healed by treating with MEBT/MEBO in combination with skin grafting.

    Heng Yang Zhu Yuping

(Dept of Surgery, General Hospital for Staff and Workers, Dagang Oil Field, Tianjin)

200 cases of brun were divided randomly into 2 groups. 100 patients in each group. In the two groups, patients almost has same burn area and depth and were treated respectively with MEBT and conventional dry therapy. A comparison of the efficacy between the two groups revealed that MEBT is superior to conventional dry therapy in many respects.

    MEBT for Treating Electric Burns

    (Abstract)

    Chen Fegui

(People's Hospital , Ningguo County, Anhui Province)

Electric burn always has more than two deep wounds. Though not large in area, the wounds are often deep and accompanied with small endarterium injury. If not treated timely, they will result in throm bosisi and progressive necrosis.

MEBO helps to keep the wounds in a physiological moist environment without maceration . MEBO promotes liquefaction and removal of necrotic tissue . It creates active drainage and promotes proliferation of epithelial cell and capillary.

20 cases of electric burn were treated with MEBT/MEBO. All the wounds healed. No amputation and deformity occurred. The therapeutic course was short and the efficacy was very good.

In our hospital, 10 cases burned by explosion of antracene and carbazole were treated with MEBO . The results were very satisfactory. The characteristics of the burn of this kind is that in addition to the common characteristic of thermal injury , there are some concealed symptoms of clinical importance. Doctors should take early measures for the prevention and treatment of these concealed symptoms in order to achieve good therapeutic results.

MEBT/MEBO had the advantages of its effects of promoting removal of necrotic tissue and granulation. It had analgesic , wound protecting and wound healing promoting effects . No escharetomy was needed for deep second degree and superficial third degree burns in hands. For deep third degree burn, even escharetomy and skin grafting were done, the wounds were healed through epithelialization. No scar and no deformity occurred. The appearance and function of the hands recovered very well. The average healing time of the wounds was shortened by 4 to 5 days.

Diagnosis and Treatment of Burn Complicated by

    Respiratory Failure

    (Abstract)

    Zhao Junxiang

    (Nanyang Centre for Burns)

Severe burn complicated by respiratory failure , if not treated early has high death rate. Mixed type respiratory failure is most common. It has rapid onset and often occurs at early stage post burn . One of the clinical manifestations is persistent hypoxemia. It is necessary to take early measures for prevention and treatment. Blood gas analysis should be done at early stage . When partial oxygen pressure comes to lower than 7.98Kpa , mechanical ventilation and positive expiratory end pressure method should be applied timely . It is very difficult to cure patient after the symptoms of respiratory failure become severe . In that case, the death rate will be very high.

Fluid Infusion for 162 Cases of Severe Burn Treated

    with MEBT

    (Abstract)

Hu Dongcai Wang Xinmin Hu Qianli

    (Medical School, Jiangxi Province)

The permeability of capillary wall of burn patients is altered. Body fluid loss is very significant and blood volume decreases quickly. This will result in shock. In order to prevent shock and help the patients to tide over the shock smoothly. Fluid resuscitation and blood volume replenishment should be adopted timely. This is a key link in the treatment of burns.
